An essay is composed of several paragraphs, as few as two or as many as necessary, all in support of an idea or a series of related ideas. The essay gives the writer an opportunity to explore a topic fully and to express ideas and feelings completely. There are basic types of essays: Narration( tells a story), Description (shows the reader some object), Exposition (explains the writer’s views), and Persuasion ( convinces the reader to accept the writer s ideas). Also we can distinguish basic types of writing. It can help you to find your way.

The thesis statement is a generalization which an essay supports, develops, illustrates and explains. Every word, sentence, and idea in the essay must support the thesis statements. This is why it is important to write with a focus. The thesis statement is to the essay as the topic sentence is to the paragraph. The topic states the general topic or subject.

Before starting the actual writing process it is important to keep all your thoughts organizes. This is where the outline comes in. An outline provides a road map to follow as you write, which minimizes your chances of getting lost or unorganized. There are the scratch outline which is the most informal method of outlining, the topic sentence outline which lists the topic sentences that would appear in the body of your essay, the topic outline that differs from the topic sentence outline. It is not written in complete sentences, rather it presents it s information in words or phrases. The sentence outline is a good indicator of the relationship between ideas and paragraphs and of the approximate length of an essay.

Another way to add unity and coherence to a work is little tile. Keep your title short, interest your reader to discover your essay and find out exactly what the title means. Make the title related to the essay or it’s thesis and sure you need to place it on the title page. This is a process that must be followed and remembered.

First you need to identify general topic and begin library work. Brainstorm topics in the readings that spark your interest, topics that speak to you. Then you need to select one or two authors who write about common themes and read more about there ideas(thesis). Look for some books and some dissertation database about related topics. You may also want to use newspaper and magazine articles to help stimulate and focus your interest, and you may try some google.com searches to see if there are authoritative webpages about your subject. Read several general pieces about your author to help you decide which aspect of her/his writing will be your focus.

Ask yourself some questions as you read:

Does it relate to my own life in some way?

Is there something in this topic I would like to prove or argue about?

Do my readers need persuasion?

Will this topic be actual for the readers?

Once you narrow your topic, do some database searching to make sure you can find enough material to explore and support your focus.

Draft a Preliminary Thesis

Begin by asking yourself some specific questions about your topic that you would like your research paper to answer. This does not mean that your thesis will be posed as a question, this is simply a way to arrive at an assertion that you can use as your thesis and that your research paper will prove or argue. After you have done some preliminary reading, look at these questions, you can focus your topic by writing a draft thesis statement.

Write your research paper. Don’t be afraid to discover your conclusion. Don’t be afraid to adjust your thesis statement as you figure out where you thinking is going. At the end most important is to revise your paper. Look at your research paper organization. Make sure your paragraphs are coherent, sticking to just one point. Check your intro and conclusion and make sure you have completed a circle. Good luck.

There are many techniques to writing a good essay. An essay is very important and is usually somewhat short, so it is important to be very clear and prompt. The structure or plan of your essay is very critical. Also the paper should cover everything to make it easier to understand. Another thing to keep in mind when writing an essay is to keep everything clear.

Structure of your essay is important, so pay your attention to structure. I know if you are anything like me you hate the word structure when it comes to writing a paper. You will find out later that it is extremely important. No matter what, you must always have a thesis, something to base what you are writing about. Your thesis should be proven very early in the paper. Your thesis should also be backed up with several statements and evidence. Then your statements should be followed with other statements. But remember not to make it too lengthy and do not get away from the point (thesis) you are trying to prove. This is the most effective and fastest way to do a plan on a paper.

Your paper should also cover everything that is required to make it better. Make one hundred percent sure that your introduction and thesis is covered and make sure your reader knows what the paper is about. You cannot have one without the other. When proving your thesis make sure you have enough general and major evidence to help you. Always remember to have proper diction and don t forget the level of writing you will be using. Once again make sure that your thesis is proven. Be sure to have a good amount of specific evidence. This is very important as well when proving your thesis. Always remember when you re writing not to forget what the assignment is. Do what you were told. Finally one of the easiest things to forget is the mechanical errors, the spelling and other punctuation that is used in writing.

Writing an essay to most people seems like a chore. I can understand that and in a way it is. It is one of those things that you just have to pick up and get it over with. As I have learned in the past, you can t make them too short but you cannot always sit there and write a whole novel. An average essay is around two pages long. After you do your plan the right way you will find that there is not always a lot of room left. Most of your paper is in the plan; you just have to convert it into a paper. Once you do the plan it is all down hill.
